Surgery scheduled today!!

Great news everybody!

I had an appointment with my cardiologist today and he agreed to close up the hole in my heart. YAY! Potentially off of the Plavix about 6 months after surgery! Yipee! One more horrible medication off my list.
So, everybody pray for me. The doctor was essentially supportive of whichever decision I made (fixing the hole or staying on medicinal therapy). But given that I have already had 2 strokes, I would much rather take the chance in reducing the risk further of having any more.

The procedure is relatively simple, I'll be awake the whole time. So, I'm looking forward to having this hole fixed. It's scheduled for October 8, so I'll be all better by my birthday! YAY!

Ok, so I'm so frustrated! I generally don't like to post about work, but today just about got me. The proverbial poop hit the fan at the office today at about 4:15. I got a couple of emails regarding some specific invoices that hadn't been processed yet. Generally, not a big deal. However, these invoices come in packets and some of these packets have multiple invoices (up to 27 in some). That doesn't seem like a big deal, except you can work an entire 8 hour day and only get 4 or 5 invoices completed.

The crux of this is, the money has already been taken out of the bank. Therefore, we haven't been putting these invoices on the highest priority. So, while we have been concentrating on getting current invoices taken care of, these have piled up.

I get these emails today basically saying that our priorities have been misaligned all this time--we need to get these invoices done. I was a bit livid. I mean, my staff comes in early, stays late and comes in on the weekends. Are they not entitled to have lives outside of the office? Because, I'm not joking when I say this, my 3 staff members (plus the other person that has access to our system) would have to stop processing our regular invoices and stay at work until like 10 pm for 2 weeks to get all of these invoices processed.

I don't like to complain about my job. I am truly thankful that I have a job. Sometimes I wish I didn't work quite so many hours, but I do what I have to do. It's just frustrating when someone who only works 40 hours a week tells me that I need to push my staff harder. There is no way that we can add more staff, yet some thing has got to give. I mean, these people that sent me emails don't work overtime, that I know of (and I get enough emails from them to know when they are in the office and when they're not). I can't even return all of the phone calls and emails that I get, much less do the work I need to do as a supervisor, and it's still not enough.

So now, my boss has decided to have us concentrate of these stupid invoices until they are all completed. Great. However, that means the new invoices coming in will not be processed or paid until later. If I didn't have to be the one to feel the repurcussions of this, I wouldn't be complaining. But for each vendor that doesn't get paid on time, I will have 30 more emails and phone calls. GRRRR!!!!!!

Sonnet 116, William Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alterations finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
Oh, no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken.
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come.
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error, and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Man I'm bummed

I checked Stephenie Meyer's website and someone illegally posted a partial draft of Midnight Sun on the internet and so it is now ON HOLD INDEFINITELY!
She posted a partial draft herself and I read it yesterday and like I already thought just from reading the first chapter... it is to be a truly good book. And will give such insight into Edward's side of the story... If we ever get to read it all!

On a good note... my Harry Potter collection is complete. My staff at work loves me! One of the girls on my team knew that I was looking for hardback copies of the first 3 books. But I just haven't had the extra money to spend on buying them retail. She goes to a shop close to work at least once a week and lo and behold last week, someone sold off their entire collection and she snapped up the first 3 for me and had them hold them for me (at a deeply discounted price!)! How awesome is that! I wasn't sure I was going to be a good supervisor, but maybe I'm doing something right?
